WorkSnug

Description

WorkSnug Pro is an augmented-reality tool that connects mobile workers to the nearest and best places to get some work done in the city. Simply point and move the phone and all becomes clear.

Early in 2011, WorkSnug chose Marmalade to port its innovative iOS augmented- reality app, initially to Android and Symbian. WorkSnug relies on tying together core device functionality such as location, camera, compass, microphone and remote database access. Marmalade’s rich API set covers all of these, so was a natural choice for WorkSnug.

The iOS app had been designed for a fixed-screen resolution. However, Marmalade’s flexible and reskinnable UI framework was easily able to replicate the user experience of the iOS app, and seamlessly accommodate different 2D assets to cover the range of Android and Symbian screen resolutions. The porting process then involved converting Objective-C code to C++, and remapping iOS framework calls to Marmalade API calls.

Richard Leyland, WorkSnug Founder says: “We didn’t think a cross-platform framework would provide access to the APIs we needed – but then we found Marmalade. Once we’d ported the iOS codebase across to Marmalade, and generated the new 2D artwork, we were amazed that we could deploy WorkSnug across all Android and Symbian devices with literally a single click. The most fantastic thing is that, in the future, we’ll need only to maintain a single codebase to cover a whole bunch of target platforms, which will be a huge cost and time-to-market saving.”
