RoadPilot mobile is an effective GPS speed camera locator application that provides alerts for fixed and mobile speed camera sites. RoadPilot mobile’s real-time alert facility enables motorists to notify other members of the RoadPilot user community if specific mobile speed camera sites are active (i.e. if there is a police speed checking vehicle present).

RoadPilot is a pioneer in GPS safety technology and employs a team of dedicated surveyors, whose sole job is keep the RoadPilot database of fixed safety cameras and known accident black spots completely up-to-date. RoadPilot also supplies speed camera data to most of the most respected organisations in the navigation industry.

RoadPilot had already built a J2ME application allowing featurephone users to access their data, and were looking to improve on this with a richer app for smartphones. After looking at various development approaches and other cross-platform tools, RoadPilot decided that Marmalade was the best environment to deliver the required functionality and wide device reach.

“Our app requires fine-grained control over GPS and networking functionality – the sort of thing many apps development tools simply don’t provide” said James Flynn, CEO RoadPilot. “Marmalade has enabled us to build the app we wanted, and deploy it simultaneously across iOS and Android. We’ll certainly be using Marmalade’s wide platform support to reach other OS’s and app stores soon.”
