Fail Forwards was founded in 2010 by Mark Stevens and Andrew Watson who met studying Danish in Copenhagen. The company makes mobile apps that aim to be a little different — to provide knowledge, ideas and experiences that make your life that little bit more interesting.

The “Design Icons” series is a collection of quiz apps based around graphics and product design from the last few centuries. Simple yet engaging, the apps use Marmalade’s UI, font and 2D drawing APIs to good effect. Facebook, Twitter and email integration are also featured.

The series has been reviewed in the Creative Review, Seattle Post, Maker magazine, Living Etc magazine, the San Francisco Chronicle and a host of blogs and websites. So if you’re looking for a fun way to brush up on your design spotting skills, or want a deep dive into our visual culture, the Design Icon series is the the answer!

Design Icon: Chairs
“Design Icon: Chairs” turns learning into a game. It works by showing silhouettes of design icons and then asking you for the name, designer or date. You’ll quickly learn to recognize the classic designer models. The world’s most iconic chairs are featured. The majority are classics of the 20th Century, though a few famous 19th and 21st century pieces are included. Currently there are more than 100 chairs featured. It will take many hours of play to get a perfect score.

Design Icon: Fonts
“Design Icon: Fonts” teaches you to recognize iconic fonts (or typefaces) that you see every day, but perhaps don’t notice. ‘Design Icon: Fonts’ turns learning into a game and gets you recognizing fonts in no time. There are 20 of the most iconic fonts to get you started. By showing key letters, short phrases, numbers and upper and lower case examples, you’ll soon be able to spot fonts in the field. In addition, key letters are highlighted (in a lovely red) that are either distinctive or help you tell similar fonts apart.
